Favorite Charleston Area Places

One of the most beautiful places in the Charleston SC area and specifically in Mount Pleasant's Waterfront Memorial Park.

Perfectly tucked under the new by Charleston standards Arthur Ravenel Bridge that connects the Town of Mount Pleasant and Charleston, the pier was built on pilings left by the Grace Memorial Bridge after demolition. "The Grace" as Charleston called her for about 75 years has her own place in history and will forever live as part of the Park's infrastructure.

Opened in 2009, the park includes a 1250-foot long pier that stretches out into Charleston Harbor under the foot of the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge. One end of the pier features an 8,100-square-foot covered pavilion for hosting dances and other events. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the bridge and harbor from the pier’s bench swings and shade structures. Fishing is allowed and encouraged from the pier where many species of fish are caught daily...There is a fee.

I have been to many events, including dances, hosted by some great local bands.

The park is home to a Charleston Convention and Visitors' Bureau Visitors Center where you can collect any information that you may need about your visit this beautiful place that we lovingly call the Lowcountry, a fantastic playground, grounds for picnicking, restrooms, a concession building, local souvenirs, and a wonder Sweetgrass Basket exhibit. Sweetgrass Baskets are a treasured part of the Mount Pleasant, SC Culture.

One of my favorite ways to pass some time is to walk along the pier, particularly close to sunset when the views are some of the most amazing that you will witness in Charleston while listening the laughter of the children on the playground. Visitation to the park is FREE, and there is a small parking charge...$.50/hour.

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina...An All America City in an All America Community!

The Town of Mount Pleasant has been named by the National Civic League an All America City in 2010, the first time to receive that designation. Check out the following link to get additional information.

Mount Pleasant, known most often as the little sister of the City of Charleston, has grown up to be a fantastic gem in the crown of the Lowcountry in South Carolina. With her many golf courses, plentiful boat access and water views, popular restaurants, nice housing in nice neighborhoods, fantastic shopping, access to beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, good schools, low crime, rich history and culture, clean landscaped streets, and nationally ranked recreation department, Mount Pleasant has finally been given the recognition that she so richly deserves.

During my term as Mayor and during the terms of Mayors that preceded and succeeded me, the frame work was put together and tweaked by elected leaders and citizens alike to bring this wonderful city that we lovingly call a town to where she is today. Two important deadlines!

There are two important deadlines in April...both imposed by Washington. The first deadline is one that everyone thinks about, the IRS deadline to file your Personal Income Tax Return, is of course April 15th. This sometimes mean that you will need to cut a check which you will have to attach at a designated spot on your income tax return. Pretty painful for the check and for your checkbook. The second deadline is for you as a First-Time Home Buyer to be under contract so that you can qualify for the Tax Credit of $8,500 and for you if you have lived in your home for 3 of the last 5 years and you are purchasing a new principal residence to qualify for the $6,000 Tax Credit.
